Phuket Island :

Chalong Bay

Chalong is Phuket's principal boat anchorage and the island's largest bay. Ao Chalong has a flat, shallow and muddy bottom, and at low tide the waters recede as much as 1 km. The bay's restaurants are renowned for their seafood. Most visitors to the islands south of Phuket depart from Chalong pier. Charters to various places can be arranged from there, and it is the centre of the island's yachting activities. The pier and a number of restaurants are located on the short road leading to the beach from the circle.

Mai Ton Island

This tiny island located off Phuket's southeast coast is highly prized for its pristine natural environment, including fine, white-sanded beaches and crystal-clear waters-ideal for swimming, diving and fishing. The only business of any kind on the island id the plush Maiton Island Resort. Those not wishing to stay overnight can take a daytime excursion from Ao Makam Deep Sea Port.

Bang Tao Beach

Bang Tao is a large open bay with one of Phuket's longest beaches. It was once the site of a tin mine, but is now home to a luxury resort. Much of the bay is occupied by the Laguna Resort complex, a massive five-star development with its own golf course. There is, however, alternative accommodation available at the bay's southern end. At the bay's southern end is a smaller bay, almost completely enclosed, at the mouth of which lies some fine coral. Along the way there are numerous restaurants serving great food.

Nai Ton Beach

This is quiet, secluded spot nestled at the bottom of towering hills is most often nearly deserted. Some accommodation is available, but there is very little else in the way of other facilities. The beach is located between Bang Tao Bay and Nai Yang.

Surin Beach

Attractive evergreen trees rim this small, curving bay beneath the foothills north of Kamala. The steep incline of the beach and turbulent waters with strong waves make Surin a dangerous place to swim during the rainy season. Surin is also the home of Phuket's first golf course, a nine-hole course laid out over 60 years ago during the reign of King Rama VII.
